Vitus Shell is a mixed-media collage painter born in Monroe, LA, where he lives and works. His work is geared toward the black experience, giving agency to people from this community through powerful images, deconstructing, sampling, and remixing identity, civil rights, and contemporary black culture. He received a BFA from Memphis College of Art, 2000 and an MFA from the University of Mississippi, 2008. Vitus Shell has been in residence at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Anderson Ranch Art Center, Hermitage Artist Retreat, Mass MoCA, Joan Mitchell Center, Skowhegan School of Art, and Masur Museum of Art.

THIS LAND is funded in part by a grant from South Arts with support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Additional support provided by the Mississippi Arts Commission.

"Being from North Louisiana, you’re like the step cousin … of everybody from South Louisiana. And sometimes we don’t get the full credit…" – Vitus Shell

Beautiful piece, especially the detail and craftsmanship shown throughout the shell design and presentation. I’ve been reviewing a GED Social Studies Test lately, so creative museum features like this are inspiring and relaxing.

This was a beautifully written and thought-provoking post about the artistic and symbolic aspects of Vitus Shell. The way it connects art, nature, and interpretation makes it very engaging. I recently came across a similar discussion on a review blog, and it also explored how meaning can shift depending on perspective. Interestingly, I once saw how unrelated everyday topics like https://www.goprogaragedoorrepair.com/ are sometimes used in examples about precision and attention to detail, which felt surprisingly relatable here. A very enriching read.

I didn’t expect eggy car to be this addictive. At first it feels simple, but once you start trying to keep that egg balanced over hills, it turns into a real test of patience and control.

drive mad proves that great games don’t need flashy graphics. Its strength lies in smart mechanics, unpredictable obstacles, and the constant tension that keeps players fully immersed and eager to overcome every brutal yet satisfying challenge.
