About The Event
We are excited to gather and celebrate the work of two Mississippi artists during our opening reception honoring both of our upcoming exhibitions, Return to Oldfields & Andrew Bucci: Landscapes in Pattern and Color.
Return to Oldfields explores the artistic, ecological, and cultural significance of the Southern home, through the lens of the historic Lewis House (also known as Oldfields) where Walter Anderson famously lived and worked during the 1940s.
The works displayed in Andrew Bucci: Landscapes in Pattern and Color commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of famed Mississippi artist Andrew Bucci, and includes rare and evocative landscapes and studies in oil, acrylic, watercolor, and even needlepoint.
Free to the public.
This event is held in conjunction with Magic Hour, the Museum’s quarterly community micro-festival, featuring: live music, celebratory snacks for Walter Anderson’s 119th birthday, and a one-night pop up art
show from local artists called “The Home Front” raising funds to benefit Ukraine.
Return to Oldfields and its programs are presented by The Hearin-Chandler Foundation. Additional support is provided by the Mississippi Gulf Coast National Heritage Area and the Department of Marine Resources, the Mississippi Chapter of the Sierra Club, and through a grant from the Mississippi Humanities Council, through support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
