Introduction to Oil Painting — Artist-Led Workshop

Come and learn how to paint with oils! Local Artist, Louie Joseph, will introduce participants to the materials and methods of oil painting. In this 3-hour workshop, attendees will be guided through a small painting to begin and then work independently on their own paintings, with one-on-one support from Louie. Participants should bring a reference image of their favorite beach and a smock or apron. You will leave this workshop with 2 new paintings, a bounty of technical knowledge, and a list of supplies to continue the joys of oil painting at home!

Louie Joseph is a contemporary southern painter currently residing on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He works in oils, primarily on linen and oak panels, employing an impressionistic style. Joseph’s paintings are informed by a spiritualist perspective that references a lifelong fascination with Afro-Caribbean and Native American mysticisms.
