Bravuras of Birds | Student Art Show 🪶

NOW ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS UNTIL NOV 1 🪶✨ The Walter Anderson Museum of Art invites K–12 students to submit original artwork and poetry for the 2026–2027 Student Art Show, to be held at the Ocean Springs Community Center. The Student Art Show is generously sponsored by Merchants & Marine Bank. 

This year’s theme, "Bravuras of Birds," is inspired by poet Walt Whitman’s Song of Myself. Whitman, a poet beloved by Walter Anderson, uses the phrase to evoke bold, dazzling, and expressive bird calls—sounds that rise above the ordinary with beauty, strength, and individuality. Students are encouraged to explore the world of birds as symbols of voice, freedom, movement, and imagination. What does it mean to sing your own song? To be vivid, powerful, or heard? 

We welcome original submissions in any visual art medium—including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, and more—as well as original works of poetry. K–12 students may submit…
