| An
Artist's Album of Southern Collections
An Artist’s
Album of Southern Collections
exhibition opened on January 25th with over 200 works
by Walter Anderson from more than fifteen private and
public collectors. Explore the unique world of Walter
Anderson through this array of collections. This exhibition
draws from museums, galleries, and several notable private
collections in Mississippi and the three surrounding
states. The exceptional Louise Lehman collection was
recently purchased by the museum and is part of this
major exhibition. In addition to An Artist’s Album
Mrs. Lehman artwork will be on display in the Museum’s
Jo Love Little gallery. Mrs. Lehman’s own art
work shows the juxtaposition, and frequently mutual
relationship between the artist and the collector.
“These two exhibitions
are a new direction for WAMA” said Gayle Petty-Johnson,
Museum Director. An Artist’s Album
includes works never shown to the public. These private
collections hold some of the most important pieces of
Walter Anderson’s art, and Mrs. Lehman was an
accomplished and recognized artist who also was a major
collector of Anderson’s work.”
An Artist’s
Album includes ceramics, watercolors,
block prints, oil paintings, and sculpture all by Walter
Inglis Anderson many on view for the first time in the
galleries of the museum. This exhibit not only exposes
Museum visitors to a broader scope of his work but will
allow them to examine the world of Walter Anderson through
the eye of the collector.
Such an album of Walter
Anderson provides a new body of works not ever seen
together and not always available to the public.
